Men bail because of past hurt? now what?

ok so pretty much everyone that has answered told me that they think my man said hes not ready for a relationship because hes really into me and afraid of being hurt again ... the only problem is that when he told me that statement i was very hurt and he knew it, i just freaked and went on the defensive... i like him sooo much ... we r perfect for each other... the problem is i havent said anything to him since, its been 5 days... i look back at the situation after my cool down and still am very confused.. did he bail because he was falling to fast and he got scared? i dont know if i should just call/ tex him and pretty much give ihim the impression that its ok or give him space and let him call me...i mean honestly, if he thinks he hurt me and he really liked me as much as i think he did...wouldnt he figure things out in his head and call me or would he be obsessed with the idea that he hurt me and not want bother me unless i said something first?
