Can anybody remember the name of this near future book?
I read a book about an America in the near future. It was probably written in the 90's or early 2000's. In this future America the government was an oppresive, nanny-state type government. There were so many taxes, restrictions, etc. that business and innovation were severely stifled. Sugar, salt, and cigarettes were either banned outright or only available with a prescription. The main character had his "eyes opened" by the resistance movement (I think). He then fled to a newly liberated Russia which, because of its free and open government, had become a mecca of business, innovation, science, etc. It has been years since I have read this book and I don't remember its name but I would really like to read it again. Thanks!
