The mineral ilmenite, FeTiO3, is an important source of titanium dioxide for use as a white pigment. In the first step in its conversion to titanium dioxide, ilmenite is treated with sulfuric acid and water to form TiOSO4 and iron(II) sulfate heptahydrate. Titanium dioxide is obtained in two subsequent steps. How many kilograms of iron(II) sulfate heptahydrate are produced for every 1000 kg of ilmenite processed?
